The Journal, Monday, 6/19

Hey Folks,

Well, I’ve taught my grandson Bryan about as much as I can teach him. I expected the situation to resolve this week one way or the other. But my part in it resolved yesterday.

At my son’s invitation, Bryan chose to go north with him to Flagstaff, a much larger area with great opportunities.

If Job Corps calls and he decides to still go with them, I’ll arrange to get him to Tucson. If not, at least he has a start on his life.

The Mandel Center has made the United States Holocaust Museum’s Encyclopedia of Camps and Ghettos (1933-1945) available online FREE in searchable PDF files. This is an invaluable resource if you’re interested.

Visit https://www.ushmm.org/research/publications/encyclopedia-camps-ghettos/volumes-i-and-ii-available-online/.

You’ll have to answer a brief questionaire, then be patient as each part downloads. The whole thing downloaded for me in only a couple of minutes. Again, the download is free, whereas a hard copy of each book costs nearly $300.

UPDATE on Website Stuff

Well, the plugin I had such hope for isn’t working. It hasn’t missed sending me a copy of my own posts in my own category. But I posted six different posts in three other categories, and it didn’t send out any of those. So I guess I’ll call time of death on the experiment.

For those few of you who hoped to join me in this Writing in Public endeavor, sorry. I really thought it would work.

However, I still encourage you (all of you) to set up your own challenges, writing in public or otherwise. It really is great fun when you push yourself.

I’m off to New Mexico in the morning, about a 6 hour drive. I have a pair of uncles over there I really need to visit. I’ll be staying in a motel, though, so I hope to get some writing done while I’m gone.

Funny. Yesterday a friend sent me a link to a western magazine where I might want to submit short stories before I publish them outright. (Thanks, Alison!)

Today, I received a request from a curator at BundleRabbit to include two of my westerns in the upcoming Guns of the West bundle. One is my contemporary western novel, No Kind’a Time, and the other is a short story, “A Turning Point for Charlie Pilsen.” Cool, eh? I’ll announce it here and on my website when the bundle is out.

Today, and Writing

I woke early but rose late. You know how that goes sometimes. I spent the first several hours working on the Writing in Public website, tweaking the subscription plugin, etc. but to no avail.

I’ll spend a little time packing for my trip, and I’ll hope to write at least a short story today. We’ll see. I have a couple of great starts in mind.

No writing again today. I think I’m resting from everything that’s gone on the last couple of days and what’s coming up. That and fretting over the Writing in Public site.

See you tomorrow.
