Hey Folks,
To the few of you who might have known him, Cololnel Robert “Bob” McCartan, USAF Retired, signed off on his last tour of duty last night in Tucson, Arizona.
I first met the colonel several years ago at either the SSA Wrangling with Writing Conference in Tucson or at one of the several writing seminars I taught. It was my great honor and pleasure to call him Friend.
After undergoing successful knee replacement surgery on Friday, the colonel suffered a major stroke on Friday night. His family moved him into hospice care yesterday.
I had the colonel’s “type” in mind when I created the protagonists in two short stories: “Blue Bell and the Roses” and “The Spring.”
I will always wish I’d known him better.
Today, and Writing
Rolled out a little before 3. Relaxing my way through the morning. Per usual. Breakfast around 7.
Well, no clue how much new writing I’ll get done today. From computer and WIP to grandson, back and forth.
I wrote a little today, cycled a lot. The novel did take a sudden turn and gave me a clear vision of who and what it’s about. (Hint: It wasn’t who I thought.) This might be a very long one.
The turn required me to cycle back and tweak a few things. But it’s all right. It’s moving along, and that’s what matters.
