The Journal, Wednesday, 2/22

Hey Folks,

No topic today, so just my blathering.

Oh, I think I mentioned I bought a new guitar a couple days ago to add to my small collection. (I also have a Martin HD-28 and a custom made, arch-top f-hole tenor Britton guitar, made by my maternal uncle, Roy Britton.)

Anyway, if I didn’t mention buying a new one, well, I did. It’s a hollow-body electric Peavey JF-1, a Jack Daniels custom job. If it plays and sounds as good as it looks, I’m in trouble. (grin)

Oh here. That’s a picture of it on the left. (No, the chair didn’t come with it.) It should be here around the end of the month. It will enable me to reawaken my other passion.

Well, another slow start to the day. And I think my sleep time is beginning to adjust again, back in the direction of more daylight. My grandson sometimes works some evenings, and I pick him up.

Another part of this adjustment is that I’ve been wanting to start walking again, but I think I’ve been waiting for warmer early-morning temps. I can roll out at 4, drive to a good walking place (no dogs, little traffic) and be walking by 4:30.

And I’d rather walk at the beginning of the day than interrupt my writing or whatever else to change clothes and walk, then shower and change clothes again. That’s a lot of wasted time.

When I walk now, it’s something short, maybe a mile or two, so I don’t get all sweaty. Plus a mile is only about 20 minutes, so it’s nothing more than a normal break from the story.

I’ve always (well, since I was about ten) been intimately aware of Time. I have a hyper-developed sense of urgency. Then again, that’s also part of why I’m fairly prolific as a writer.

For example, when I leave a room for whatever reason, I look around and see whether there’s something i can take with me to avoid another trip (wasted time) later.

If I walk soon after I get up, I avoid wasting the time it takes to change clothes more than once and to get back into the flow of whatever I was doing before I walked. (grin)

But warmer mornings will begin out here probably in mid-March or so. I can only barely wait.

Today, and Writing

Rolled out at quarter to 4 and began easing into the day. Just one of those days when rushing is not in order.

Drove to the store about 7:30. Back, in the Hovel and to the novel at 9:30. I’m hoping this will end today.

Well, the novel didn’t end today, though it might’ve had I had the whole day to stare at it. (grin) Not really a good day at all.

I wrote two new scenes and did a lot of cycling, adding this here and that there. The grandson was supposed to go in at 5 tonight, but they called him in early.

While I was in town, I also took care of some shopping, etc. and now the laundry is waiting. So I’m writing off the rest of today at 3 p.m.
