The Journal, Wednesday, 2/1

Hey Folks,

For those who wonder (and thanks for your comments), my grandson Bryan is doing well.

He’s working into a routine, spending about 4 hours per day reading and doing some self-study toward his GED.

Yesterday he also started looking around and applying for jobs online. That is primarily to take up some of his current spare time vs. playing an online game he’s fond of.

He recognizes his own weaknesses and limitations and is seeking to improve. Instead of giving in to his desire to play the game during every spare moment, he wants to find something else to balance that time. His idea. My encouragement. He’s a good kid.

Today, and Writing

Rolled out WAY late at almost 4:30 this morning. Wow. 10 hours of sleep. I don’t remember the last time I did that.

Still a little under the weather (allergies, I think, and sinuses) but not a big deal at all. Actually, when I feel a bit poorly it motivates me to write. Nothing like a good jab of mortality to urge a guy to action.

Around 9 a.m., to the Hovel to write. I hit about 600 words in the first hour. Then I stopped to do some world-building (in a few drawings on a sheet of paper with a pen.

When that was completed, it was clearer in my mind and I transferred it to the novel. This is a blast! So by 11 I had only a little over 1000 words, but it’s all good.

Another thousand words on the day, then up to the house to start a load of laundry. And a brief walk while that’s washing.

Well, not an auspicious beginning for the month. I hate to start a month on a low note. Missed my daily word count goal, but I’m tired so stopping a little early today.

Back tomorrow.
